Filamentous phages

This type of bacteriophages may cause chronic infections, which do not result in cell lysis.

Bacterial cell infected by this type of bacteriophage is constantly releasing progeny phage particles. This usually leads to a growth inhibition and a massive, continous phage production. Filamentous bacteriophage life cycle is presented below:
